Health is wealth. When each person reaches middle age, cholesterol is one of the biggest problem that often occurs. Too much cholesterol will destroy a person's health and it can produce heart disease such as heart attack. Therefore, low cholesterol diet is important to begin with in your everyday meal.

Excess cholesterol in your blood will build up the walls in your arteries which will form a heart disease. Blood flow to the heart is force to slow down because the arteries are narrowed.

Therefore, if the blood that supplies the oxygen to your heart cannot be reach in time, you may experience chest pain. Worst still, if the blood flow to your heart is bloacked, you will suffer a heart attack.

The Good and Bad Cholesterol

There are two types of cholesterol that most people know.

  1. LOW DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN (LDL Cholesterol)- also known as bad type, has less protein.
  2. HIGH DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN (HDL Cholesterol)-also known as good type, has high protein.

Studies shows that those with high cholesterol levels which exceed 240mg, might hit by heart disease compare to those with low cholesterol level which is under 200mg. Cholesterol level in between 200-230mg are considered borderline high.
In order to avoid heart disease, we should watch our diet and constantly check our cholesterol level. Remember the old saying; "Prevention Is Better Than Cure".

  • Chicken and Beef are both excellent choices for those who wish to lose weight because the meat are low in fat and high in protein.
  • Both are versatile and easy to purchase.
  • There are lots of different ways to cook low cholesterol easy recipes which you could enjoy your favorite meat without worrying the cholesterol and calories.
  • However, when preparing chicken, it is important to remove the skin before cooking because it is quite high in fat content.
  • Most recipes provide 90g of chicken or beef per person.
  • Each recipes usually comes with other form of Carbohydrate, for example; rice, pasta, beans, potatoes or vegetables.
  • By combining these ingredients, you can ensure that you are eating healthy and getting sufficient nutrition from different sources.



#1 - Braised Chicken with Pak Choy

Marinade sauce:

  • 1 tsp Chinese wine
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp corn starch

Ingredients to prepare:

  • 1 bunch Pak Choy, washed and boiled briefly
  • 150g Chicken fillet, sliced into strips
  • 1/2 small carrot, sliced into strips and cut into florets
  • 3 slices of ginger, sliced into strips
  • 2 cloves garlic- chopped
  • 1/2 red onion- chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  • Chop 2 or more garlic cloves into small pieces.
  • Chop 1/2 red onions into small pieces.
  • I prefer more garlic for my vegetable dishes. Hence, I used 4 cloves instead of 2.

Wash Pak Choy

  • Wash Pak Choy as a whole bunch or you can tear them apart.
  • Make sure the dirt and sands are washed off from the ends of the roots.
  • Dip the pak choy into a basin of water for 30 minutes before cooking time.
  • This is to ensure the chemicals on the vegetables are washed off.

Chicken fillets

  • Wash chicken fillets and pat dry.
  • Cut the chicken fillets into strips.
  • Marinate them with the marinade sauce .
  • Leave aside for 10 minutes.

Sauté Ginger, Garlic and Onions

  • Pour a little oil in wok.
  • sauté chopped garlic, onions and strips of ginger until fragrance.
  • Add in the marinated chicken strips.
  • Stir fry until the chicken is tender.
  • Add in the strips of carrots and florets of carrot into the wok.
  • Pour in a little water and allow dish to simmer.
  • Lastly, add in the washed Pak choy. Pour in the remainder water.
  • Stir fry for a couple of minutes.
  • Add in pepper and salt according to taste.
  • Simmer for a couple of minutes.
  • Turn off heat.
  • Arrange the Pak Choy onto a plate , followed by the chicken and carrot.
  • Lastly, pour over the remainder gravy over the dish.

#2 - Pork Shred with Seaweeds

Ingredients to prepare:

  • 1 packet of enoki mushrooms / needles mushrooms
  • 100g lean pork / chicken fillets
  • 1 sheet dried seaweeds ( original taste- packed )
  • 5 slices of carrots- cut into strips
  • 2 slices of ginger
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 1 tsp Chinese wine

Marinade Sauce Mixture

Marinade Sauce:

  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp fish sauce
  • 1 tsp corn flour

Seasoning:

  • 1 tsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cut off the roots from the Enoki Mushrooms. Wash and drain them well.
  2. Cut the dried seaweed into long strips. Set aside.
  3. Cut the pork / chicken fillets into strips. Marinate with the sauce for 10 minutes. Set aside.
  4. Heat up wok with a little oil. Sauté ginger and garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add in the marinated pork. Stir fry for a few minutes until semi-cooked.
  6. Sizzle with wine.
  7. Add in the Enoki Mushrooms and add in a little water if it is too dry.
  8. Toss in the carrots and the seasoning.
  9. Stir and all the ingredients are well combined and cooked.
  10. Dish up to a plate and sprinkle dried seaweeds on top before serving.

  • 4pcs firm tofu / beancurd
  • 75g lean pork, cut into shreds
  • 1 tsp dried shrimps, soaked and rinsed
  • 1 sprig spring onions, chopped
  • 1 sprig chinese parsley, chopped

Instructions for preparing the meat

  1. Pat dry beancurd. Soak dried shrimps for 1 minute. Remove the dried shrimps from the diluted water but keep the water for later use ( for other vegetable recipes ). Chop spring onion, parsley, garlic, onions. Set aside. Minced lean pork. Mixed the dried shrimps with minced pork together.Marinate them for 10 minutes. Set aside.

Instructions for stir fry


  • Heat up wok with a little oil.
  • sauté chopped onions, garlic together with the marinated meat.
  • Pour in seasoning and keep stirring.
  • When the pork is cooked. Turn off heat.
  • Meanwhile, place 4 bean curds in a shallow plate and steam in a steamer for 10 minutes.
  • Discard the excess water .
  • Pour the cooked meat on top of each bean curd.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and spring onion.
  • Optional: You can add in boiled, soft carrots as garnish ingredients.
