Let us make a key chain holder

Are you having fun with making handmade gifts already?

I have to admit that Fabric Alphabet Key chain Holder was a little difficult for a novice in stitching. Besides that, it is a little bulky and heavy to slip into your pocket.

Recently, I had stumbled upon a website that teaches lots of handmade gifts that can be done at home and I was keen to give a shot on this Flower Key chain Holder. The steps were quick and easy to follow, not much sewing and uses small pieces of fabric scraps that are put into good use.

Furthermore, it is a perfect simple small gift that you can complete in 20 minutes.

Advantages of Making Flower Key Chain Holder

1. You can attach the Flower Key chain Holder into your handmade greetings card as a keepsake for the recipient to remember.

2. This Flower Key chain Holder is small enough to slip into the recipient’s pocket, not bulky or too big to fit it. It is convenient and easy to carry around in jeans pocket, handbags, pouch and school uniforms for students.

3. Make as many as you want during your leisure. Keep them as spare gifts for Birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Birthdays and Christmas, just in case you are too busy to make any last minute shopping for your loved ones or friends.

4. You can sell this Flower Key chain Holder in charity bazaar especially in school and churches. Donate them to these charity events for good cause. You are doing a good deed.

5. Make different Flower Key chain Holder using different fabric patterns, sewing an alphabet or number initials in order for you to recognize the keys looped into the key chain holders are for different purposes ( or different doors ). Alternatively, you can sew on buttons or ribbons, anything that stands out.

What You Need To Prepare

  • For the basic handmade key chain holder, you need to prepare a needle, some threads, a soft and thin sponge, a pair of sharp scissors and different fabric patterns.
  • Do not discard small pieces of fabrics after your sewing projects. They come in handy for small handmade gifts, card making and recycle crafts too.
  • After gathering all these small pieces of scrap fabrics that I had left in hand, I chose 2 pieces of contrasting color fabrics for the key chain holder that gives a captivating feeling.
  • As for the inside fillings, choose a thin piece of sponge rather than the thick ones as the gift is supposed to be light, small and convenient to carry around.
  • Look for thin sponge in old shoulder pads from clothes, old fabric pencil case, old fabric shopping bag or simply use your spare dish washing sponge.
  • In order to sew firm and strong stitches, use your sewing machine to sew the circle stitches so that the stitches will not come off easily during prolong tear and wear.
  • In spite of not having own a sewing machine myself, I had to hand sew the stitches twice in order to make them safe and secure.

How to Put the Circles Together

  • Place the 1st circle pattern fabric, inside facing upward. Hence, the beautiful fabric will be facing down.
  • Place the brown circle on top of the pattern fabric.
  • Next, place the circle sponge on top of the brown fabric.
  • Notice that the sponge is smaller than the rest of the fabrics.
  • Lastly, place the 2nd circle pattern fabric on top.
  • Hence, you will notice the beautiful pattern fabrics are facing outside on both sides.
  • Cut out a 5inch length of white strap.
  • Insert one end under the brown cloth and the other under the 2nd pattern fabric as photo shown.
  • Make sure that the white strap is deep enough to touch the sponge.
  • Adjust the length of the white strap as you like.
  • This is to ensure that the white strap does not come out loose when you sew the circle stitches later on.
  • It should look like a loop or handle.

  • Sew simple single stitches around the 4 circles, just above the thin sponge which is smaller than the rest of the fabrics.
  • Sew the stitches twice in order to make sure that the sponge is in the middle of the flower key chain holder.

  • You can choose to cut into upside down “U” shape or whichever shapes you like.
  • After you have completed the snipping, your key chain holder should look like a flower shape as photo shown.
